FREE Trees for Schools & Communities from Woodland Trust

Hundreds of thousands of trees are being given away by the Woodland Trust to help the UK reach its 2050 carbon net-zero target.

Schools, nurseries, colleges, universities, outdoor learning centres, and other groups such as resident associations, sports clubs, parish councils, scouts and guides from across the UK are among the organisations eligible to apply for up to 420 saplings to improve their local environment.

Schools need to plant on either the school grounds, land the school has arranged regular access to or in an area that is publicly accessible.

For community groups, the land needs to be accessible to the public and your local community should are aware of your plans to plant and be happy for you to go ahead.

You don’t need to belong to an official organisation. You could set up a group for the purpose of planting, but you must be not-for-profit. The most important thing is that your group is willing to take on the planning, planting and care of the saplings.

Tree packs include hedging, copse, wild harvest, year-round colour, working wood, wild wood, wildlife, and urban trees.

Applications for tree packs are currently being accepted for packs to be delivered in November 2025 and are expected to close in August 2025.
