This funding from Architectural Heritage Fund (AHF) is a programme designed to support the restoration and adaptive reuse of neglected historic buildings in town centres across England.
It aims to empower community-led organisations, such as charities, not-for-profits, and social enterprises, to take ownership of heritage assets and transform them into functional community spaces.
The programme prioritises projects in town centres and seeks to preserve historic buildings at risk of decay.
The fund offers three grant types:
- Project Viability Grants of up to £15,000 to help to establish whether a project is viable
- Project Development Grants of up to £100,000 to support development work on historic building projects. The average grant is likely to be £70,000 – £80,000
The deadlines for Project Development Grant applications to be considered at Grants Panel are:
- 21 April 2025 for a decision in June 2025
- 14 July 2025 for a decision in September 2025
- 13 October 2025 for a decision in December 2025
- 19 January 2026 for a decision in March 2026.
Capital Grants are also offered, up to £350,000.
The deadline for expressions of interest for Capital Grants is 27 June 2025, with full applications to be submitted by 29 September 2025, for a decision in December 2025.
