Funding is available for projects to help Londoners benefit from the joys of walking and cycling.
Transport for London (TfL), in partnership with The London Marathon Charitable Trust, are offering Community Ideas grants of up to £5,000 to fund projects that engage communities across London in safe, enjoyable and inclusive walking and cycling activities between January and September 2026.
You can apply if you are a community organisation, charity, third sector organisation, not-for-profit organisation, community interest company or social enterprise in Greater London.
The aims of the fund are to:
· Increase walking and cycling in London (including new, lapsed or occasional cyclists)
· Increase confidence in walking and cycling
· Increase walking and cycling frequency
· Make cycle ownership more accessible
· Introduce exercise via walking and cycling to people who are particularly inactive
· Reduce social isolation and get people involved and together in their local community.
Eligible projects are those which:
• Encourage people to walk and/or cycle more often and more safely for transport, exercise or leisure, particularly those who are new to walking or cycling, used to cycle but no longer do so, or are infrequent walkers or cyclists
• Focus on connecting with a diverse range communities which are currently detached, for a variety of reasons, from walking or cycling in London.
A series of application workshops are taking place on the following dates:
- Thursday 7 August, 12pm Register here
- Tuesday 19 August, 10am Register here
- Wednesday 20 August, 6pm Register here.
They are also offering Communities Ideas grants. These are specifically for smaller community groups, charities and social enterprises who may not have applied for a grant or run a community project before. Applicants pick from a list of templates of previously successful project ideas and receive more support throughout the application and project delivery period.
The closing date for the current funding round is 10am on Monday 8 September 2025.
