NEW FUND: Suicide Prevention Grants – apply by 1 Oct

The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has launched a £10m Suicide Prevention Grant Fund for 2023-2025, to support suicide prevention activities delivered in England by non-profit organisations.

The strategic objectives of the fund are:

  • to support non-profit organisations to configure their suicide prevention services and activities to better meet increased demand seen in recent years
  • to support a range of innovative activity to prevent suicides, both at a national and community level.

The fund is particularly (but not exclusively) interested in suicide prevention activity targeted at:

  • population groups that are considered to be ‘groups of concern’, which includes:
    • children and young people
    • middle-aged men
    • people who have previously self-harmed
    • people in contact with mental health services
    • people in contact with the justice system
    • autistic people
    • pregnant women and new mothers
  • geographic areas where demand for services is greatest and where there are disparities in provision and access to services, compared to other regions in England
  • more marginalised groups, such as ethnic minority groups including Gypsy Roma and Traveller communities, and LGBTQ+ communities.

Grant requests of up to £750,000 can be made.

Applications must be made online via the Find a Grant portal unless exceptional circumstances apply.

They will be reviewed by assessors initially, followed by an award panel. The aim is to inform shortlisted applicants approximately 5 weeks after the closing date for applications.

Grant funding must be used by 31 March 2025.

Online information events for potential applicants are planned. For information on these, and other questions, email SuicidePreventionGrant@dhsc.gov.uk.

The closing date for applications to the fund is 11.55pm on Sunday 1 October 2023.
