Small grants are available from this Foundation which supports organisations and causes that are unpopular or do not receive widespread public attention and which can broadly improve the Third Sector.
Applications can be submitted by small charities and other organisations with an average income of under £300,000. Organisations can work anywhere within the United Kingdom but the Foundation gives preference to those located in areas of deprivation.
Your cause could be unpopular due to negative focus within the media, difficulty in accessing statutory, voluntary and institutional funding, because it is seen as politically controversial or because the issue you are trying to address is not typically seen as a charitable cause.
Some examples of these could be asylum seekers and refugees, migrant communities, offenders and ex-offenders, people experiencing violence or abuse, sex workers, trafficking and modern slavery, dependency or addiction, LGBT+ and sexual and reproductive health. They know that unpopularity can be very subjective and this list is not exclusive. Anyone who believes their cause meets the Foundation’s criteria is encouraged to apply.
The funder values long term impact and improvement and looks to support work and projects which are sustainable beyond the period of funding.
They encourage applications from organisations that work together and can demonstrate how their work improves collaboration across the sector and want to improve the skills within charitable organisations, so are open to funding training and development opportunities.
The next application deadline is 1 February 2023.
