This year’s programme will provide unrestricted small grants to 700 small, local organisations in England that are making a positive difference in their communities.
Groundwork is working with People’s Postcode Lottery for a third year to deliver Grassroots Grants.
Unrestricted grants of between £500 and £2,000 can be accessed by voluntary or community organisations with an annual turnover of no more than £25,000.
Priority will be shown to organisations which:
- rank as being within the top 15% on the English Indices of Deprivation
- work with and support communities classed as marginalised or vulnerable.
The funding is to support groups that provide vital services in their local communities. It can be used for project ideas within an organisation’s charitable or constituted objects including:
- access to food or basic essentials
- improvements to local green spaces
- cultural initiatives
- support or wellbeing activities
- volunteering opportunities to improve the local environment or support people
- training to improve the capacity building of your organisation.
There is a wide range of costs which can be considered, including but not limited to:
- staff or volunteer expenses
- for equipment or materials
- core, ongoing running costs of your organisation
- training for staff and volunteers
- consultant time to help develop your organisation or key policies.
To apply, complete the eligibility checker and if you meet the programme criteria, you will be sent a link to the application form.
The 2026 applications period is from Wednesday 7 January until September 2026.
Applicants are encouraged to apply throughout the period. The Fund will not close early or be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
