Small grants are available to individuals through this funding to enable them to continue gardening despite advancing illness, age, or disability.
The Gardening with Disabilities Trust is a small, volunteer-only charity with a specific remit – to help individuals back into gardening.
To apply for a grant, individuals must provide a letter from their doctor or other healthcare professional indicating their disability and a copy of another official document, such as a Personal Independence Payment (PIP) or a Blue Parking Badge.
The Trust offers various support measures, including adapting private gardens to meet the special needs of the disabled, making grants towards tools, raised beds, paving, and greenhouses.
Typically they fund items such as:
- raised beds
- poly tunnels
- greenhouses
- tools
- small-scale garden adaptations. eg. access pathways
- plants or shrubs
- compost.
They have a list of builders and suppliers who they can place orders with on behalf of applicants, or they provide vouchers to be used with them. They do not make direct payments to applicants.
All viable applications are discussed at regular Committee Meetings which take place roughly every two months.
Successful award recipients are asked to send receipts and photos of how their grant has been used. They will sometimes arrange visits to see the outcome in person.
The closing date for applications is the Saturday 30 November 2024.
