In partnership with Visit England and the Family Holiday charity, the Department for Digital, Media, Culture and Sport (DMCS) has announced funding to offer short breaks to families facing difficult challenges.
More than eight hundred families in England struggling financially, or facing illness, isolation or bereavement, will be given short holidays and trips through a new £600,000 government initiative.
England for Everyone will offer trips to campsites, chalets, caravans and lodges across the country. Holiday vouchers worth up to £450 each will be provided to help cover transport, accommodation and food.
The breaks may be taken at any time for families with preschool age children, or during school holidays before 5 June encompassing either the February half-term, the Easter holidays or the Jubilee Bank Holiday and Summer half term for those with at least one child under 18 years..
Parents, carers and young people who may not otherwise be able to take a short break, can be referred to the charity by people such as social workers or teachers.
