The microgrant scheme from Richmond Council which began in April 2024 has been extended to support projects and activities on an ongoing basis.
The grants aim to help spark and support locally-led climate action initiatives, providing small scale funding to help local green initiative get off the ground or grow an existing project.
In 2025, they have a separate dedicated funding pot for schools, with funding on a termly basis. Around six grants will be awarded every other month over the next year.
Each month, climate action microgrants will award between £100 and £500 to community groups, schools, individuals or non-profits to run events, activities and initiatives that promote positive behaviours in the community around climate change and sustainability.
They are especially interested in applications that can demonstrate a wider community benefit – from individual neighbours to supporting more disadvantaged or vulnerable members of the community.
The grants are open to anyone living or working in Richmond borough and can be applied for by individuals, community groups, schools, or not-for-profits.
The application deadlines for Community grants are:
- Friday 25 April
- Friday 27 June
- Friday 29 August
- Friday 31 October
- Friday 26 December.
The application deadlines for School grants are:
- Friday 23 May
- Friday 24 October
- Friday 13 February 2026.
