Registered blind or partially sighted people can apply for grants for useful technology to help them live independently.
UK residents who are registered as blind or partially sighted may be eligible for small grants of up to £500 (depending on the item) to help pay for accessible technology that supports independent living.
Aapplicants must receive an eligible means-tested benefit, have savings of less than £6,000, and have been refused funding for the technology by their local authority.
They must also not have received an RNIB grant within the previous three years.
The grants provide funding which can be used for items including accessible smartphones, tablets, e-readers, accessibility software, braille displays, and magnifiers. Other eligible devices may also be covered.
Items must be reasonably priced for an applicant’s needs and within guideline maximum prices.
Applications can be made throughout the year and must be supported by a professional. This could be a social worker, occupational therapist, health care visitor, or a worker from another charity that is helping you. It cannot be a GP, a friend or family member.
