Are you an experienced advisor with experience and up-to-date knowledge of welfare benefits, housing legislation and a range of other areas likely to impact disabled people?
This role with Richmond AID provides a specialist advice and casework service (benefits, housing and general advice) to Richmond borough residents, in particular families, in partnership with Citizen Advice Richmond.
You will manage an active caseload and provide a comprehensive advice and casework service to families with disabled children or disabled adults, with particular emphasis on benefits and housing. This will include advising clients on their rights and entitlements, supporting them with form filling, submitting applications and effectively challenging adverse decisions.
Support is provided through a range of methods, including home visits, face-to-face appointments at the Richmond AID office, online, email and telephone.
The essential skills required for the post include experience of face-to-face client work and effective relationship building to identify and resolve issues, good negotiation and communication skills and experience and an understanding of equalities, safeguarding and the issues and barriers that disabled people face.
You will also need excellent ICT skills with a working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Outlook and database experience.
An enhanced DBS will be required to permit working with vulnerable adults and children.
The post is initially offered on a 12-month contract basis, with potential for extension.
